Anticancer Activity of Some Ruthenium(III) Complexes with Quinolone Antibiotics: In Vitro Cytotoxicity, Cell Cycle Modulation, and Apoptosis-Inducing Properties in LoVo Colon Cancer Cell Line

Cisplatin is one of the most effective anticancer agents used to treat colon cancer, which third malignancy between common human cancers in world, but resistance developed represents an obstacle against full success chemotherapy. An emerging interest appeared finding other metallic compounds, such as ruthenium(III) complexes, for chemotherapeutic application cancer. Our study focused on activity several ruthenium (Ru) complexes with quinolone antibiotics tumor cell cultures. Real-time analysis and drug-mediated cytotoxicity tests monitored inhibitory effects drug-treated LoVo cancer cells. Flow cytometry assays were performed evaluate cycle phases distribution apoptotic events. The obtained results showed dose-dependent increased levels lysis induction apoptosis cells treated Ru(III) complexes. In addition, data a major decrease proliferation, since percentages distributed S phase diminished, G0/G1 arrest was observed. Therefore, our strongly suggest that newly synthesized might play important role future approaches, their based diminishing apoptosis, modulation phases.
